MSTM NEWS
This is our first “issue” of MSTM News. This page was created to publish the biggest news we’ve had since the school was licensed in 1995, and that news is: The school is under new ownership, with a new director! On July 1, Linda Sola, our founder and director for more than 11 years, sold the school to Jim Hackett, one of our most popular instructors. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be publishing more information about the exciting changes planned at MSTM. Please be assured that we intend to build on the foundation established by Linda, and that means an excellent and affordable education for massage therapists.
Here’s the press release written by Linda and Jim:
Maui School of Therapeutic Massage Under New Ownership
On July 1, 2006, the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage, at 1043 Makawao Avenue, Suite 207, Makawao, Hawaii, was sold to James Hackett, a massage therapist for 30 years and an instructor at the school over the past 5 years.
Linda Sola, MSTM’s former owner, who founded the school in 1995, stated, “After 11 years and 30 graduating classes, it’s time for me to pass the torch. The intention to sell the school grew from hearing Jim’s ideas on education and his dedication to the profession. I’m confident that putting the school into his capable hands is a win-win for both of us, for the school, and for Maui. There is no one better qualified to direct the school and serve the community than Jim. I am excited and delighted.”
Mr. Hackett has an extensive background in massage and bodywork and is certified in Neuromuscular Therapy, Sports and Orthopedic Massage, Structural Bodywork, the Rolf Method of Structural Integration and Jin Shin Do Acupressure.
Hackett also has considerable experience in the Massage school industry. In 1981 he founded the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, where he served as a director and instructor for 17 years. He has lived on Maui for the past 8 years, has a private practice in Kihei, and has taught massage therapy at several Maui schools.
“Linda Sola has done an outstanding job in building the reputation and success of MSTM. I intend to continue the school’s legacy of excellence and professionalism and I am excited about the creative opportunities which lie ahead, including offering more advanced and specialized trainings in massage and body therapies.”
Maui School of Therapeutic Massage has been licensed by the Hawaii State Department of Education since 1995, and has graduated over 650 Massage Therapists in 30 graduating classes. MSTM graduates have a pass rate of over 99% on state and national certification exams, and are employed by spas, resorts, chiropractic, medical centers, and massage therapy clinics on Maui and around the world. The school’s community outreach program has provided therapeutic massage for pregnant mothers, babies, seniors, handicapped children, and sports events, including the Maui Marathon and the Hula Bowl. The school also operates a very popular student clinic, providing affordable massages to Maui residents and visitors alike.
